Sumi” in Japanese means black ink and ‘e’ means painting. This painting is the art of drawing objects and themes in ink with a Chinese or Japanese brush – the unpainted areas are just as important as those painted in different shades of gray. The ink diluted with water ranges from deep black to light gray. In Sumi‑e, we primarily paint the four “nobles”: the plum (spring), the orchid (summer), the chrysanthemum (fall) and the bamboo (winter). We also practise drawing clouds and dragons.
Materials will be provided by Nordico.
